On December 7th, Mnemosynes is proud to host Franco-Senegalese poet and academic Sylvie Kandé for a reading of her poetry and a discussion of her historical, artistic, and linguistic studies and practices. Please join us at 14h at Rerenga Wines (3 rue de la Fidélité). Sylvie’s performance will be accompanied by a reading of her work in English translation.

Sylvie Kandé is the author of three collections of poetry published by Gallimard and since translated into German & English. Her poems have been awarded prizes such as the Prix Lucienne Gracia-Vincent/Fondation Saint John Perse and the Prix Louise Labé de poésie. Some of her work was selected for inclusion in Poésie du Louvre and At the Louvre (Seghers & New York Review of Books, 2024) alongside entries from some of the most important voices in contemporary poetry. She is a contributor to several journals, including Verse of April. Trained as an historian, she contributed to the Unesco General History of Africa, Vol X. She teaches in New York City and is the 2024 recipient of a SUNY Chancellor’s award for Excellence in Scholarship and Creative Activities.
